project working plan
IGCP 524 will operate from 2007 to 2009. A conference and field trip is planned for each year.
In 2007, activities began with a symposium on arc-continent collision orogeny at the European Geosciences Union annual conference in Vienna (15th - 20th of April). The symposium was convened by the co-ordinators of IGCP 524 and saw several of the project participants as presentors.
The major year of activities for the project will be 2008, when a three day conference and five day field trip are planned for January in Taiwan, and a two day conference and a 10 day field trip will be held in the southern Urals in August. A symposium at an international conference (e.g., EGU or AGU) will be convened to deal with themes arising from the aims of the IGCP proposal.
In 2009 a two day conference and a one week field trip is planned for the north Caribbean margin, likely in Cuba, where participants will visit the arc-continent collision that occurred Caribbean arc and the North Americam plate at the end of the Cretaceous. A symposium at an international conference (e.g., EGU or AGU) will be convened to deal with themes arising from the aims of the IGCP proposal.
