The S-directed northern Súria anticline (stop 2).

The objective of the workshop is to provide an overview of salt tectonics in compressional settings at different scales using the South Pyrenean field examples. From simple to complex, lateral variations of style, growth strata and double control of tectonics on sedimentation and vice versa. The results of this workshop can stimulate workers in different salt tectonic regions as the Western African Margin and the Gulf of Mexico. Participants are encouraged to bring their own data to enhance both indoor and outdoor discussions.

The workshop includes a few lectures on salt tectonics at the Parador of Cardona, located in the northern flank of the detached Cardona anticline, and the visit of selected outcrops in the Pyrenean southeast foreland fold-and-thrust belt.

This is an easy trip including short walks from the bus stops. We will visit the el Guix, Súria and Cardona anticlines, and the Sant Llorenç de Morunys growth strata example.

The salt cored Cardona anticline (stop 3).
We will visit a salt mine inside the diapir.

The Sant Llorenç de Morunys growth strata example (stop 4)
in the northern end of the south Pyrenean detached fold system.
